Are you an experienced translator, or recently qualified and aiming to broaden your portfolio? Looking for an opportunity to have a big impact with even a few hours per week of your time?

Mission Assist provides a translation service to support mission workers and their missions, without charge. The team also translates literacy books from English into French, Spanish and Portuguese. Known as "Shell Books", these are made freely available for anyone around the world to download and add their own local translation to aid learning ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).).

Ideally, each member of the Mission Assist team is translating into their own first language and checking is done by a mother tongue speaker. The aim is to accurately convey meaning from one language to another where there is a need for better quality and suitability than the output of machine translation tools.

You would not just speak French (and English!) but have a qualification in translation or significant experience of translation to a high standard.

You can choose how many hours to serve and when, so your volunteering can be flexible and fitted in around other commitments. You can get involved wherever you live, using your gifts and time, expanding your experience.

To contribute to the translation service provided by Mission Assist serving world mission from home.

• Provide an initial translation, usually from written text.
• Check someone else's translation, before it is delivered.
• Keep in contact with the service coordinator, to support their role of assigning tasks and checking progress for the client's timeline.

• French as first or bi‑lingual language.
• Experience of translating between languages.
• Willingness to work as part of a team, giving and receiving feedback to deliver translations to a high standard.
