We represent some of the largest insurance providers, offering robust defence strategies in cases involving catastrophic personal injury. We are committed to delivering outstanding client service while helping to shape the future of legal defence in this complex area.

Our Newcastle office is regularly recognised by the Legal 500 as offering a Band 1 level of service and technical expertise. We are seeking an experienced Catastrophic Injury Lawyer specialising in defending complex injury claims to work with our Newcastle office. The role is ideal for a driven and detail‑oriented professional who is skilled at managing high-value, complex cases and is passionate about providing exceptional legal services in defendant motor insurance claims.

The successful candidate will be part of a team working on cases involving traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations, brachial plexus injuries, serious orthopaedic injuries and fatalities. Cases often involve providing detailed analysis of complex liability disputes and/or the indemnity position of various interested parties. Experience of indemnity‑related disputes is desirable but not essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Case Management: Support one of our Lead Lawyers with their high-value, complex injury Defendant RTA caseload. The majority of the caseload relates to claims with a value from £3 million to above £20 million.
  • Accountability: Communicate and develop relationships with clients and the claimant’s legal team. Maintain exceptional levels of service through proactive case management.
  • Research & Analysis: Conduct thorough legal research and analyse medical records, liability documents, Part 35 reports and witness statements to prepare comprehensive, technically complex advice on indemnity, liability and quantum issues.
  • Court Representation: Represent clients in hearings, settlement meetings, mediations, arbitrations and trials.
  • Development: Engage in the development of junior team members, delegating appropriately and guiding technical ability and achievement of objectives.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Qualified solicitor or CILEX (equivalent to 3‑4 years PQE).
  • Significant experience in handling or assisting large loss or catastrophic injury files; expected to handle a case load of large loss injury cases (£1 million).
  • Defendant experience preferred; claimant experience at a sufficient level of expertise and seniority will also be considered.
  • Understanding of case law, litigation practice and process, and Court Practice Rules relevant to high-value claims; comfortable researching and analysing legal principles to provide comprehensive advice.
  • Strong technical knowledge on assessing liability, quantum issues and procedural issues (e.g. contested interim payment applications).
  • Excellent organisational and IT skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to colleagues, clients and third parties.
Why Join Us?
  • Professional Growth: Access to continuous learning and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborative Environment: Work with a talented, supportive team in a firm that values integrity and innovation.
  • Competitive Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package.
  • Values: Our culture focuses on making Keoghs sustainable and successful for our people and clients; our four values are at the heart of everything we do.
