Staff Nurse – Interventional Radiology
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Staff Nurse role within our Interventional Radiology team.
Job OverviewInterventional Radiology at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is the leading UK centre for interventional oncology, providing a full range of interventional services. Awarded Exemplar Status in 2012, the department is an integral part of the hospital’s Major Trauma service and operates a state‑of‑the‑art hybrid theatre.
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic nurse with strong communication skills to join our highly specialised team. The role offers varied clinical exposure across different specialities and no two days are the same.
Responsibilities- Provide a high standard of individualized nursing care in accordance with agreed policies, through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for individual patients.
- Assist with interventional radiological procedures, including scrub and circulating duties, administration of IV sedation/analgesia/medication, and recovery of patients undergoing elective and emergency procedures.
- Work Monday–Friday covering shifts from 08:00 to 19:00 and participate in the 24/7 on‑call rota once sufficient experience is gained. Rota flexibility required as service expands to 6–7 days per week.
- Night duty is not required.
- Qualified nurse (degree/diploma)
- Registered nurse on the appropriate part of the register
- Knowledge of current issues within the acute health service
- Understanding of personal accountability
- Knowledge of own role within the team
- Evidence of teaching and supporting learners in practice as a practice supervisor
- Awareness of evidence‑based practice
- Awareness of responsibilities for management of infection control
- Evidence of ongoing personal development
- Able to use initiative
- Understanding of IRMER regulations
- Experience of monitoring acute patients
- Evidence of recent study
- Previous experience/qualification in a relevant specialty
- Teaching experience
- Experience of acting as first assistant or scrubbing with a radiologist for IR procedures
