Job Overview

Ward E5 Lower GI ward within University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Charge Nurse/Sister to join our established senior leadership team. The ward is an 18‑bedbed unit dedicated to delivering high standards of care for patients who have undergone pioneering surgery. The successful candidate will work within the senior team, oversee and manage their own team, and report to the ward leader and matron team.

Responsibilities
  • Support the personal and professional development of the ward nursing team.
  • Ensure that quality agendas are being met and that the team delivers safe, effective, timely care.
  • Lead and motivate nurses, working closely with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Safeguard the delivery of care pathways for the Lower GI patient group.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and patient empowerment.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
  • Essential criteria
    • Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma).
    • Registered nurse on the appropriate part of the register.
    • Significant post‑registration experience or further training in the relevant specialty.
    • Ward management experience.
    • Experience in an acute hospital setting.
  • Desirable criteria
    • Experience in handling adverse events and complaints.
    • Appraisal skills.
