Job OverviewUniversity Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust provides a fantastic opportunity to work in our Theatre Recovery department. We operate a 24/7 service with a team of approximately 85 registered staff, covering 45 beds and 6 recovery areas across multiple specialities. The successful candidate will cover a range of shifts including early, middle, late, twilight and night shifts across 7 days a week.
WhatYou’ll Do
As a Theatre Recovery Nurse you will provide outstanding care to adults and children in the post-operative phase, across a range of specialities.
- Undertake A-E assessments, perform emergency airway interventions and manage acute deterioration.
- Support learners throughout the department and engage with the education team regarding continual professional development.
- Adhere to all trust policies.
Candidates can be either Adult or Paediatric Registered Nurses or RODP’s. Key attributes include:
- Understanding of personal accountability.
- Practice and promotes evidence‑based practice.
- Registered nurse on the relevant part of the register.
- Degree or equivalent experience.
- Ability to assist in the transfer of a patient through the intraoperative phase of perioperative care, with concise accurate handover.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the skills required to support learners in practice and create a positive learning environment.
- Practises and promotes the use of evidence‑based practice.
- Knowledge of current issues within acute health service.
- Understanding of personal accountability.
- Aptitude for caring for the anaesthetised and/or acutely unwell patient.
- Experience of teaching and supporting learners in practice.
- Relevant resus qualification, e.g. Immediate Life Support.
- Experience of working within a relevant care setting.
- Specialist theatre work‑based learning course, mentorship course or equivalent post‑qualification.
- Interest in research to promote good practice.
