Main duties of the jobAn exciting opportunity has arisen within Southampton Children's Hospital's, Children's Respiratory Team for a dedicated registered paediatric nurse with leadership qualities to join our friendly, supportive multidisciplinary team as a Children's Primary Ciliary (PCD) Nurse Specialist. We are pleased to offer a 30 hours per week as a permanent position.
Specific to this role we are open to discussing flexibility in the hours that you work. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you need, and we will explore what's possible for the role and service.
ABOUT THE TEAMSouthampton Children's Hospital is a tertiary centre for providing specialist services including respiratory, cystic fibrosis (CF), long term ventilation (LTV), sleep and primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD). For PCD, we accept referrals from across the Wessex region and the West Country. We are a cohesive multidisciplinary team working closely with other subspecialty teams to ensure the best outcomes for our patients and their families.
We maintain close links with Southampton Centre of Biomedical Research leading and participating in exciting research projects locally, nationally and internationally.

Jobresponsibilities
As a Paediatric PCD nurse specialist you will work within the multidisciplinary team to deliver:
- Excellent care to our patients on an inpatient, day case and outpatient basis both locally and regionally.
- Regional clinics and home and school visits across the region as required.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care of patients and their families
- Offer telephone advice to families and professionals across the region.
- Deliver parent education for children and families.
- Deliver education to professionals locally and regionally.
- Undertake Level 7 History Taking and Physical Assessment Course
What experience/skills are needed:
The applicant should be motivated, enthusiastic and able to demonstrates professionalism when working under pressure.
You will be expected to show:
- Sound leadership skills
- Good planning and organisation skills
- Full UK driving license is essential.
- Support and be able to motivate a team to provide safe care of the highest quality to all our patients and their relatives.
Applicants should have post qualifying experience in a relevant specialty which includes working in an acute paediatric environment. The applicant will be expected to show good co-ordination and leadership skills participating in workload planning and coordination of care of patients within our caseload.
Person Specification Qualifications, knowledge and experience- Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
- Degree qualification or equivalent 120 credits at L6
- Post registration qualification within area of speciality or equivalent experience
- Completion of all Band 5 (preceptorship) competencies
- Provide evidence of supporting /Managing a range of learners in practice
- Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
- Extensive post registration experience within specialist area
- Knowledge of current issues within the acute health service
- Understanding of personal accountability
