Job OverviewUniversity Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust offers an exciting opportunity to join the Research and Development Department’s Grants Team. This full‑time position supports investigators from conception to completion of research studies, ensuring compliance with national benchmarks and UHS strategic priorities.
Responsibilities- Manage grant function within R&D, including grants register, reporting metrics, quality checking and costings.
- Develop grant costings for research projects and personal awards in accordance with submission deadlines and funders’ guidelines.
- Work with clinicians to establish interest and scope for participation in research studies, build local capacity and address support needs.
- Provide expert knowledge to investigators and R&D colleagues on funding information, rules and guidelines.
- Support joint grant applications with University of Southampton investigators and professional support teams.
- Proactive and confident communicator with keen eye for detail.
- Strong grasp of financial details relating to research projects and early‑career researchers’ development.
- Ability to work well within a team while managing own time, working independently and meeting deadlines.
- Robust understanding of funding programmes and processes to support high‑quality research.
- Strong commitment to public service values for patients and healthcare recipients.
- Clinical/scientific degree or equivalent demonstrable experience relevant to the role.
- Experience carrying out costings for research grants.
- Experience of research support at an NHS Trust, university or commercial clinical setting.
- Project/grant management experience.
- Understanding of current R&D issues in the NHS.
- Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the role.
- Experience working in a large teaching hospital or university.
- Experience using IRAS or NRES databases for R&D applications or delivery of commercial clinical research.
- Demonstrable ability in using Excel spreadsheets.
- Significant experience of using systems and processes supporting delivery of high‑quality clinical care in a clinical research environment.
- Evidence of current and ongoing GCP training.
- Knowledge of EDGE as a RM&G tool.
