Marine Water Quality Officer
The Environment Agency is looking for a Marine Water Quality Officer to support evidence‑based decisions across a range of marine and coastal projects. Two positions are open: one permanent and one fixed‑term for six months.
Responsibilities- Provide timely answers to technical questions for a national team of water quality specialists.
- Review reports, extract key information, and summarise findings for decision‑making.
- Analyse monitoring data and interpret model outputs to support environmental protection.
- Use data to inform marine water quality models, including bathing water quality and nutrient load modelling of estuaries.
- Apply sound records‑management principles to maintain accurate and accessible datasets.
- Communicate technical work clearly to non‑technical audiences and
escalate challenges when necessary. - Build strong relationships across dispersed teams and with external partners.
- Make use of your initiative to contribute to the work of the team and wider organisation.
- Participate in incident response and incident management duties with full training and support.
- Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as marine science, environmental science or engineering.
- Experience in data analysis and familiarity with modelling software.
- Proficiency with tools such as Excel, Access, R, Power BI, GIS, and specialist packages (e.g., Mike, Cormix) is an advantage.
- Comfortable working in a virtual team and travelling for occasional national meetings.
- Working towards professional membership is desirable.
- Data and Information Management – collect, analyse, interpret, record, and share data appropriately.
- Communicates Effectively – convey information clearly and persuasively to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Works in Teams – collaborate within a dispersed team to achieve common goals.

Work ArrangementsNational role with flexible/hybrid working. Training and mentoring will be provided. Travel and occasional overnight stays may be required.
