Job DescriptionLarge installations in the UK are required to use ‘Best Available Techniques’ (BAT) to reduce emissions to air, water and land. We’ve established a process for defining BAT within the UK, built on a transparent, collaborative, data‑driven approach that safeguards and builds on current high levels of environmental protection. Central to this process will be the UK BAT Senior Advisor.
Responsibilities- A good understanding of process engineering and environmental issues.
- An eye for detail when reviewing technical documents.
- A solid grasp of environmental legislation and policy in the UK.
- The capability to critically review arguments and data.
- The ability to coordinate the work of technical authors.
- Excellent project management skills and a drive to complete tasks.
We use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel, but some travel and overnight stays may be required.
You’ll have an inclusive incident management objective in your development plan, so we’ll support and train you to find an incident role that suits your needs and circumstances.
Team OverviewYou’ll join our UK BAT Team. We lead the delivery of new environmental standards for UK industry, working within the Environment & Business (E&B) Directorate and reporting to DEFRA and the Standards Council for progress and delivery.
Experience/Skills RequiredAt least 5 years of working experience and a solid understanding of environmental regulation across a range of industrial sectors.
- In-depth knowledge of UK and EU industrial environmental legislation, including the IED and the Environmental Permitting Regulations.
- Experience coordinating and reviewing the publication of technical documents.
- Ability to understand the implications of BAT Conclusions in permits, on industry and the environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Planning, prioritising and organising tasks and resources to ensure timely and effective results.
- Flexibility in responding to challenges and building consensus.
- Collection and technical analysis of complex industrial data.
- Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and actively encourage consideration of diversity issues in work.
