Transportation Engineer Tech I
Performs basic design work and calculations. Performs field work; uses automated systems. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer and registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Transportation Engineer Tech IIPerforms intermediate design work and calculations; performs field work; uses automated systems and learns specialized procedures. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer and registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties of a Transportation Engineer Tech I:- Prepares field notes
- Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps
- Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
- Performs basic design work
- Performs advanced drafting and calculations in support of design activities, develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features
- Performs intermediate design work
- Prepares environmental documents
- Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications
- Schedules, coordinates and prepares documents for public hearings
- Writes general notes, specifications and provisions
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Transportation Engineer Tech I Experience
:
No experience required. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Transportation Engineer Tech II Experience
: 2 YEARS Drafting, design, plan preparation (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)
Transportation Engineer Tech I and II Licenses and Certifications
:
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Mandatory: Safety Impact Certificate
Transportation Engineer Tech ICompetencies:
- Basic roadway design
- Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities
- Applicable surveying procedures, standards, and instruments
- Building construction and contractor field procedures
- Writing and revising standards and procedures
- Performing basic design and drafting
- Training in a classroom, office, or field environment
- Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
- Follow verbal and written instructions
- Intermediate design and hand and computer-aided drafting procedures
- Performing intermediate drafting
Working Conditions:
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
- Light work
· Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs - Grasping-applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm
- Talking-expressing or exchanging Ideas by spoken words
- Hearing-perceive sound at normal speaking levels, receive information by oral communication
- Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures, view a computer screen, extensive reading
