The Nurse Team Leader post is a vital and valued role within the multi-disciplinary team. They provide expertise and compassionate leadership in the delivery of high quality and safe patient-centred care and support an open culture of continuous learning for all.

As a Team Leader, you will ensure that patient care is of the highest possible standard and provide advice and support to all staff working in the area. You will be responsible for the development, monitoring and auditing of standards for use in the clinical area. Ensuring that care delivered in the clinical area is of the highest quality, supported by research and in accordance with local and national policies, procedures and Guidelines.

Working in collaboration with other key staff in the clinical group, maintain effective use of capacity and resources including timely and effective admission and discharge.

Main duties of the job
  • The Nurse team Leader will Co-ordinate and lead the team in Discharge lounge
  • Promote, review and develop high standards of professional practice, competencies, protocols and high quality care delivery within Trust and Departmental policies, protocols and guidelines.
  • In conjunction with the Ward Manager, to be responsible for the organisation, delivery and evaluation of nursing care for patients within the department, ensuring that all members of the team deliver excellent patient care within the framework of the relevant policies and procedures.
  • Deputise for the Ward Manager in their absence in all aspects of operational management.
  • Ensure the effective maintenance of paper and integrated electronic communication systems to enhance clinical practice.
  • Participate in the ward shift pattern to ensure that adequate staffing levels are maintained within the clinical area.

Person specification Experience Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience within a busy urgent and emergency care environment
  • Demonstrable experience as a registered nurse at Band 5
  • Evidence of effective leadership
  • Evidence of excellent and motivational teaching skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of settings with patients, relatives, carers, senior leaders and other members of staff of varying levels of understanding
  • Ability to work to deadlines in a highly pressurised environment
  • Ability to use sound judgement skills and when to escalate issues and problems
