Embedded Software Verification & Validation Engineer

Location: Stevenage or Bristol, UK – Hybrid (typically 4 days on‑site)

Citizenship requirement: British Citizenship required.

A leading defence technology organisation is looking for an Embedded Software Verification & Validation Engineer to join their Real‑Time Embedded Software group. You’ll work across a varied portfolio of complex work packages, helping to qualify software and components used in some of the most advanced defence systems in the world.

This is a hands‑on role working closely with passionate engineering teams. You’ll take real project requirements, turn them into structured test cases, prepare and execute detailed test campaigns, capture data, and provide clear technical feedback that directly shapes product maturity. It’s an ideal role for someone who thrives in a lab environment and enjoys solving practical problems on electro‑mechanical systems running embedded software.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing robust test procedures from system and software requirements
  • Executing tests in a lab environment and capturing high‑quality data
  • Providing actionable feedback to software and systems teams
  • Supporting qualification of embedded, real‑time components
  • Applying strong troubleshooting and scripting skills to streamline test activity

Skills and experience required:

  • Solid background in Verification & Validation within an embedded software setting
  • Experience creating structured test cases from technical requirements
  • Comfortable working hands‑on with electro‑mechanical hardware running embedded code
  • Understanding of the full software engineering lifecycle
  • Scripting capability (e.g. Python or similar)

Desirable experience (not essential):

  • Exposure to safety‑critical systems
  • Familiarity with standards such as Def Stan 00-55 or DO‑178C/DO‑330
  • Embedded development experience in Ada and/or C/C++
  • Understanding of real‑time operating systems
  • Model‑driven development or test automation
  • Break point analysis or focused code review experience
