The Scottish Environment and Planning Team is looking for an Associate / Technical Director in Planning to expand our planning expertise. This role is based at our Stirling office and involves working on a diverse portfolio of projects, supporting major infrastructure upgrades and renewable energy developments for Scotland‑based clients.

As an Associate/Technical Director, You Will

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with a range of internal and external project stakeholders, including client teams, technical specialists, Local Planning Authorities and statutory consultees, while drawing on expertise from specialist colleagues and attending relevant meetings and site visits.
  • Report directly to the client, take ownership of team performance in meeting deadlines and objectives, ensuring project delivery against client programmes and driving progress through proactive initiative.
  • Offer the wider Environment and Planning team assistance on other projects, supporting team and business development and providing guidance on complex cases, seeking efficiency gains and identifying new work opportunities.
  • Maintain your own knowledge and skills via CPD, scheduling progress review meetings and keeping an up‑to‑date record of activities.
  • Monitor, support and coordinate the work of junior staff, providing constructive line management, regular progress reviews, feedback and delegating tasks effectively while fostering a positive team environment.
  • Participate in and support company groups, initiatives, events and socials, promoting Dalcour Maclaren’s values and a positive workplace attitude.
  • Carry out work in compliance with relevant legal, regulatory, contractual and organisational requirements and policies.

  • Hold a relevant planning degree and be a chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI).
  • Have working knowledge of the UK planning system, ideally with a focus on the Scottish framework.
  • Possess strong analytical, presentation, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare fee proposals and advise within larger multidisciplinary projects.
  • Be commercially aware, able to understand client needs and engage stakeholders effectively.
  • Be an excellent communicator, eager to learn and develop.
  • Have good knowledge of GIS systems and an understanding of environmental technical disciplines.
