Our OrganizationThe National Diabetes Trust is Canada’s largest charitable clothing and small household good collection service. With more than 5,000 donation bins and an active home‑pick‑up service in communities across Canada (excluding Quebec), we collect unwanted gently used clothing and household items, using them to raise much‑needed funds for Diabetes Canada. Each year, the program diverts more than 100 million pounds of clothing and household items from landfill sites across Canada.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, this critical role will work a 40‑hour work week, driving established routes to collect donated clothing and household items from our valued customers’ homes and our designated charity donation bins – and deliver these items to our Corporate Partners and storage facilities.
Highlights OfThe Role Include
- To understand and promote the mission of the National Diabetes Trust to the general public and to all volunteers
- Has thorough knowledge of the organization goals and objectives, services, programs, and organizational structure at all levels
- Always operates vehicles in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and in a safe and responsible manner
- Conducts pre and post trip inspections
- Completes and submits the appropriate paperwork daily
- Completes Hours‑of‑Service Logs and associated paperwork and submits daily
- Always carries proof of valid driver’s license, valid plate permit registration, a copy of the Commercial Vehicle Operator Registration/National Safety Code Registration documentation and the associated vehicle inspection and Hours of Service documentation
- Checks in with dispatch at beginning, mid‑day, and end of scheduled route
- Provides an appropriate message card to each donor
- Completes and properly logs all assigned pick‑ups
- Unloads merchandise as instructed
- Returns all equipment to the office at the end of each day
- Reports route discrepancies to dispatch
- Ensures that only authorized personnel ride inside the truck
- Participates in all required driving related NDT education, initiatives, directives, and procedures
- Performs additional duties as required to ensure the effective function of Operations
- Grade 12 education or equivalent experience
- Ability to read maps
- Ability to handle 10‑50 lbs. loads
- Ability to drive a 3‑Ton (16 foot) straight truck
- Strong organizational skills, ability to map routes for efficient pickup
- Ability to project a positive business‑like image to the public
- Strong communication skills with a wide variety of people
- Ability to provide calm assistance to upset clients
- Maintains a public‑relations attitude even during stressful situations
- Follows written or verbal instructions
- Good command of the English language
- Superior customer service skills
- Must have Full Class 5 and/or G license or higher, passenger car or light truck
- Must have a minimum of 5 years actual driving experience at the above level; 2 years if the driver has received professional commercial vehicle training
- Must have a clean driver abstract, less than 21 days old, with no violations or accidents within the last 3 years
