About the Role
Sowena Group is exclusively partnered in the search for a new Commercially minded Management Accountant. This is an exciting opportunity to join a PE‑backed services business based in Stockport, operating in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment. The business is continuing to scale and invest in its finance capability, offering this role broad exposure across group reporting, commercial analysis, and operational finance.
As Commercial Management Accountant, you’ll sit at the heart of the finance function, delivering high-quality reporting while partnering with operational teams to provide insight, challenge assumptions, and support decision-making. This role goes beyond traditional management accounting, offering real scope across cashflow, consolidation, overheads, forecasting, and systems improvement.
You’ll work closely with senior finance stakeholders and gain valuable exposure to how finance supports value creation in a private equity‑backed environment.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain robust group balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and audit trail.
- Manage intercompany postings and reconciliations across the group.
- Post consolidation journals, including loan repayments and group adjustments.
- Review VAT postings and support compliance reviews.
- Support statutory reporting and audit processes as required.
- Act as payroll processing cover when needed.
- Prepare and maintain group-level cashflow forecasts.
- Perform bank reconciliations across relevant group entities.
- Support working capital monitoring and reporting.
- Post monthly overhead accruals and prepayments at group level.
- Attend departmental cost review meetings and support alignment with rolling forecasts.
- Provide insightful variance analysis and trend reporting on overhead performance.
- Monitor, track, and report on group capital expenditure (Capex).
- Maintain financial system access controls in line with audit and security requirements.
- Support continuous improvement of reporting, controls, and finance processes.
- Act as a finance partner to operational teams, supporting rolling forecasts and commercial planning.
- Part-qualified, working towards qualification, or qualified by experience (ACA / ACCA / CIMA).
- Strong experience within month‑end processes, including accruals and prepayments.
- Deep understanding of balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls.
- Experience working in a fast‑paced, change‑led environment (PE‑backed exposure beneficial).
- Understanding of government funding structures is advantageous.
- Power BI experience, including building reports and dashboards as well as using existing models.
- Exposure to group reporting, consolidation, or multi‑entity environments.
- Commercially minded with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Comfortable working at pace cross‑functionally in a dynamic, evolving business.
- Positive, proactive, and hands‑on with a strong sense of ownership.
- Advanced Excel skills and confident across the Microsoft Office suite.
- Demonstrates integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
- Understands safeguarding responsibilities and the importance of appropriate reporting.
- Maintains strong professional boundaries and acts with honesty and respect.
