Job Purpose

This is a developmental yet strategically critical role responsible for driving aggressive cost optimisation across a defined portfolio of direct material suppliers. The Commodity Buyer will lead initiatives to improve Total Acquisition Cost (TAC) while ensuring supply continuity, quality compliance, and supplier development in alignment with PHINIA’s operational and commercial goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cost Leadership & Strategy
    • Develop and execute Total Acquisition Cost (TAC) improvement plans using benchmarking, resourcing, and tactical negotiations.
    • Leverage divisional and global contracts to maximise cost savings without compromising quality.
    • Lead divisional cost‑saving initiatives including supplier consolidation, value analysis/value engineering (VA/VE), and alternative sourcing strategies.
  • Supplier Management
    • Manage sourcing activities for direct suppliers, including RFQs, contract negotiations, and supplier onboarding.
    • Drive supplier performance using tools such as SPS and ensure alignment with KPIs.
    • Proactively address systemic supplier delivery issues and invoice discrepancies.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration
    • Support new project quotations and applications in collaboration with PLB and engineering teams.
    • Coordinate with quality, logistics, and finance to ensure supplier compliance and performance.
  • Operational Excellence
    • Maintain and improve SAP records and site forecast files.
    • Ensure adherence to IATF 16949 and Customer Specific Requirements (CSRs).
    • Participate in continuous improvement projects to enhance purchasing efficiency.
    • Regularly attend monthly communication meetings to ensure understanding of the organisation and the importance of meeting customer as well as statutory and regulatory requirements.
    • Proactively ensure quality procedures and guidelines are followed to meet quality objectives.
    • Escalate any customer quality concern immediately upon identification.
Skills

What we’re looking for

  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills with a proven track record in cost reduction.
  • Proficiency in SAP and advanced Excel for data analysis and forecasting.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Deep understanding of automotive quality standards (IATF 16949, ISO 9001).
Qualifications / Education / Experience

Mandatory

  • 3–5 years of experience in procurement or commodity buying, preferably in the automotive sector.
  • Familiarity with global sourcing, supplier development, and contract management.
  • Experience with casting, machined components, or other automotive commodities is advantageous.

Desirable

  • HNC, HND or…
