Position: Assistant Project Manager (Permanent)
Are you passionate about shaping the future of the electricity utility sector? Imagine taking the next step in your career within a dynamic, supportive environment where your development is prioritised, and your contributions make a real impact. UK Power Networks seeks an ambitious Assistant Project Manager to join our Capital Programme team in Bury St Edmunds. This permanent role offers a competitive salary of £65,241, a 3% bonus.

As the Assistant Project Manager, you will play a vital part in delivering our Capital Investment Programme and Connections projects. You'll work closely with Programme and Portfolio Managers, taking responsibility for delivering assigned work packages within single or multiple projects, or managing smaller projects in their entirety. Your career pathway will include structured development plans and formal training, broadening your project management skills and deepening your understanding of our processes, policies, and requirements.

Upon successful completion of projects after an initial two-year learning period, progression to Project Manager is possible, subject to performance reviews.

Your role will evolve through two key phases: initial familiarisation with UK Power Networks processes and phased introduction to autonomous management of contracts, sub-packages, and small projects. You will support the Programme Manager in the timely and efficient delivery of large, high-profile projects, managing contracts and engaging key stakeholders. This includes providing systems expertise with SAP for purchasing and payment, supporting project approvals, maintaining expenditure within budgets, and coordinating with a variety of business functions, alliance partners, and external agencies.

You'll organise and attend mission-focused meetings, represent senior managers as required, compile weekly safety reports, and prepare monthly client reviews. Mastering project control systems such as the Primavera suite, you'll extend support to colleagues and contribute to comprehensive reporting, risk management, and the implementation of lessons learnt. Your efforts will ensure that safety, quality, and environmental standards are always maintained.

We are looking for candidates with an engineering discipline and a basic project management qualification (HNC preferred; ONC or equivalent required). Relevant accreditations such as IOSH, SMSTS, ECS, CSCS, NRSWA, or First Aid are advantageous. Membership of a professional institute (IEE, ICE, APM, or equivalent) or progress towards it is desirable. Demonstrable project management experience within electricity distribution or similar engineering environments is preferred, along with exposure to customer and stakeholder management.
