The Staff Software Engineer will lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role requires ownership of the full software lifecycle, ensuring quality through system design reviews and adherence to cloud-native architecture principles. The engineer will collaborate across teams to translate complex requirements into actionable solutions, drive continuous improvement, and mentor peers.
A strong focus on technical excellence, innovation, and data-driven decision-making is essential to support business objectives and enhance engineering productivity within a dynamic environment.
About the team:
The Marketplace Engineering team develops core platforms and services that enable Walmart to offer extensive product selections with competitive pricing and excellent customer experience. This team supports third-party sellers in listing and managing products on while ensuring compliance with company policies. By preventing risky and non-compliant sellers, the team safeguards the marketplace ecosystem. Collaborating closely with partner platform teams, they continuously enhance the marketplace experience for sellers and customers.
The team prioritizes technical excellence, innovation, and reliable delivery to uphold Walmart’s commitment to quality and performance.
What you'll do:
- Deliverplatformcapabilitiesincludinginfrastructure,tooling,andmachinelearningframeworksalignedwithroadmapmilestonesanddomainpriorities.
- Apply cloud-nativearchitectureprinciplestoensurescalable,resilient,andagilesystems.
- Leadfullsoftwaredevelopmentlifecycleactivitiesincludingcoding,testing,deployment,monitoring,and maintenance.
- Conductsystemdesignreviewstovalidatefeasibilityandensurealignmentwitharchitecturalbestpractices.
- BuildAI-drivenapplicationsandintegratemachinelearningcomponentstoenhanceautomationandintelligence.
- Mentor engineers,influencetechnicaldecisions,andpromoteengineeringexcellencethroughcollaborationandknowledgesharing.
- Engagestakeholderstotranslatecomplexproblemsintoactionabletechnicalrequirementsandtracksuccessmetrics.
- 10 plus years of proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
- Strong proficiency in software design patterns, API design, and platform development to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Experience leading full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
- Backend:
Java, Spring Boot, Microservices - Frontend:
React.js / Angular, JavaScript, Type Script - Ability to conduct thorough design reviews and apply debugging and remedial actions to enhance code quality.
- Skilled in data-driven decision making and problem solving to optimize engineering processes and outcomes.
- Familiarity with Dev Ops engineering practices and software prototyping to accelerate innovation.
