The Test and Automation Engineer’s primary role is to design, fabricate, assemble, maintain, and improve the mechanical aspects of test jigs, fixtures, and manufacturing/assembly equipment—from initial concept to physical realization. Although the role is primarily mechanical, the engineer must also possess solid knowledge of electrical systems, Python scripting, and embedded systems (conversational embedded understanding required; hands‑on programming experience an asset).

  • Fabricating test jigs using CNC, 3D printers, and manual machining tools.
  • Assembling and wiring test fixtures, including mechanical and electrical components.
  • Duplication of existing test jigs as needed for expanded production capacity.
  • Reviewing and providing feedback on electrical designs (Altium) produced by the team.
  • Researching, selecting, and procuring mechanical and electro‑mechanical components.
  • Assisting with programming and debugging of test jigs.
  • Troubleshooting manufacturing issues involving test equipment, mechanics, pneumatics, wiring, or automated processes.
Additional Duties
  • Keeping the department workshop clean and organized, ensuring tools and equipment remain in good working condition.
  • Monitoring and replenishing stock of common mechanical parts and consumables.
  • Operating and maintaining FDM 3D printers; managing print queues and scheduling.
  • Participating in continual improvement initiatives and root cause analysis investigations.
  • Providing general testing and troubleshooting support for other teams when required.

  • CNC and milling experience are a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with common electrical lab equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, DAQs).
  • Strong technical aptitude and motivation to learn across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Experience with factory automation equipment (conveyors, robotics, machine vision, pneumatics) is a strong asset.
Preferred Qualifications And Experience
  • Mechatronics degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4 years of relevant engineering experience.
