Registered Nurse, Perinatal – Surrey Memorial Hospital

Join Fraser Health Authority as a Relief Part Time Registered Nurse, Perinatal to join our maternity team at Surrey Memorial Hospital located in Surrey, B.C. This position is available until approximately November 2026 or until the return of the incumbent.

Salary The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42 - $59.52 / hour.

Job Summary We are currently hiring for a Relief Part Time Registered Nurse, Perinatal to join our maternity team. The role is designed to provide direct patient care to childbearing patients and their families during the intra-, postpartum and high‑risk antepartum periods by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care in a perinatal clinical unit.

Detailed Overview

In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, and working collaboratively with the inter‑professional care team in the provision of person‑centered care, the Registered Nurse, Perinatal provides direct patient care to child‑bearing patients and their families during the intra, postpartum and high‑risk antepartum periods by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care to patients in a perinatal clinical unit.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct a comprehensive nursing assessment of the patient and unborn baby on admission and at regular intervals, allocates patient to appropriate care area within the Maternal Program, assesses patient using observation, communication, data review and physical assessment, initiates emergency care for the patient/fetus/newborn in crisis, and transfers patient/newborn to the most appropriate care area.
  • Collaborate with patients and their families/support persons, physicians and inter‑professional care team members in developing, implementing and modifying optimal patient and unborn baby care plans, establishing therapeutic relationships through empathy, trust and respect, and advocating for patient rights, privacy, dignity and autonomy.
  • Participate in the care and discharge planning process for patients on admission, ensuring care plans are established, implemented, and updated effectively, and collaborating with the inter‑professional team and Patient Care Coordinator on issues affecting care/discharge plans.
  • Coordinate nursing care for the patient and make referrals to the inter‑professional care team according to established protocols and practice standards.
  • Collaborate with physicians, Patient Care Coordinators, Clinical Nurse Educators and other health care professionals/providers as required to identify and resolve issues, changes in patient condition, and adjustments to care plans.
  • Teach patients and families/support persons about health promotion regarding pregnancy, birth experience, postpartum, newborn care and parenting; assess learning needs and provide information and demonstrations to support self‑care and the discharge plan.
  • Plan and discuss referral information with patient and families/support persons and initiate referrals to appropriate health care/community agencies in collaboration with the inter‑professional care team.
  • Document assessments, nursing diagnoses, observations, interventions, patient/family responses, outcomes/evaluations and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.
