In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, the Nurse Clinician utilizes evidence-informed practice to provide consultation and clinical expertise to staff, students and patients in medical, surgical or specialized clinic areas. The Nurse Clinician:

• Models direct care skills to staff and students; performs nursing assessments and ongoing evaluation of patients with complex care needs; evaluates the delivery of nursing care and nursing education including orientation and skill training; provides information and education to staff, patients and families; participates in research, policy, quality improvement, and risk management activities.
• Performs duties within a unit, hospital, program, or clinic and may work at multiple Fraser Health sites.

• Demonstrates expertise and provides clinical leadership in evidence-informed practice related to the designated clinical area; reviews literature, collaborates with the inter-professional team, and participates on regional and provincial committees.
• Role models direct patient care skills; provides education at the point of care; coaches, mentors, and provides information using clinical evidence and education theory.
• Performs comprehensive nursing assessments for patients with complex care needs; collaborates with the inter-professional team to develop and support individualized care plans.
• Determines education requirements in collaboration with leadership; completes learning needs assessments for individuals or groups.
• Arranges and/or provides preceptorships and mentorships for staff and students; develops and revises education tools and plans.
• Plans and schedules education activities; maintains tracking systems and related statistics.
• Delivers learner-centered education to staff and patients/families; evaluates program effectiveness and identifies opportunities for improvement.
• Collaborates with practice leaders to provide leadership and performance support; supports patient/family education about discharge planning and health promotion.
• Participates in quality improvement, risk management, and research activities; assists with panel interviews and budget/resource considerations as requested.
• Assists in assessing and supporting clinical skill and performance; participates in the evaluation of evidence-informed clinical decision support tools and policies.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Three (3) years of recent related clinical experience in the designated clinical specialty area, including one (1) year of education and/or leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Completion of post-graduate coursework and/or certification applicable to the designated clinical area.
Valid BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes, as required.
