What you will do
  • Provide comprehensive advice on security of tenure, possession proceedings, housing rights post-relationship breakdown, welfare and housing benefits, tax credits, debt counselling, housing options, and long-term accommodation solutions.
  • Take a casework approach to identify and meet customer needs, facilitating access to necessary services that support their ambitions.
  • Develop solution-focused, person-centred action plans with both short and long-term goals to meet customer needs.
  • Establish and maintain effective collaborations with internal and external partners to deliver supportive services to vulnerable adults and young people.
  • Conduct relevant inquiries, assess eligibility for accommodation, and make informed decisions following current legislation, emphasising the Housing Act 1996 and amendments.
  • Issue decision letters that satisfy legislative requirements, codes of guidance, and case law.
  • Identify risks and take proactive measures to mitigate them, informing senior managers when necessary.
  • Participate in developing and refining policies and procedures to ensure continuous improvement and service quality.
Requirements
  • Thorough understanding of housing options and legislation, particularly Parts VI and VII of the Housing Act 1996, Security of Tenure, and welfare benefits.
  • Experience in providing support and guidance in complex environments.
  • Customer-focused attitude with empathy and solution-orientation to maximise available options for customers.
  • Ability to explain complex legislation to different audiences and make consistent decisions.
  • Creative problem-solving to meet client and service user needs in innovative ways.
  • Skilled in negotiation and influence to manage expectations and achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Effective collaboration and relationship-building skills with a respect for diversity and openness to new ideas.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current legislation, policies, and procedures to deliver accurate advice and services.
