Pro Staff Construction Ltd are working with a Construction Contractor based in South Wales that are looking to recruit a Head of Commercial to join their team.

The Role

Reporting into the senior leadership team, you will take full ownership of the commercial performance of the business, providing strong cost control, commercial insight, and strategic direction from pre-construction through to project handover.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Leadership

* Lead the commercial function across multiple live construction projects

* Line manage and mentor the QS team, driving accountability and performance

* Maintain strong commercial discipline, cost control, and margin protection

* Oversee interim and final accounts, variations, and contractual claims

* Contribute to business strategy, growth planning, and continuous improvement

Reporting & Financial Performance

* Ensure timely CVRs, applications for payment, and commercial reporting

* Monitor profitability, cashflow, and early risk indicators

* Report monthly to the board on performance, risk, and opportunities

* Set and track key commercial KPIs across the business

Team & Stakeholder Engagement

* Develop and mentor QS and Assistant QS staff

* Act as senior commercial lead with clients, consultants, and supply chain

* Champion collaboration across construction, finance, technical, and HSEQ teams

About You

* Proven experience in a senior commercial role within construction or house building

* Strong leadership and people-management skills

* Excellent understanding of cost control, cashflow, CVRs, and contract administration

* Commercially astute, detail-driven, and solution-focused

* Confident working with JCT / NEC contracts

* Able to operate at both strategic and hands-on level
