Postdoctoral position automated scientific discovery, computational quantum many-body physics, and machine learning
The Quantum AI lab at ETH (Prof. Juan Carrasquilla ) invites applications for postdoctoral positions to work at the intersection of computational quantum many-body physics, automated scientific discovery, and machine learning.
In the wake of quantum mechanics' initial breakthroughs, we're on the brink of a second quantum revolution. Quantum physicists are adopting machine learning to explore complex quantum systems, opening doors to advancements in fields like materials science and quantum chemistry. Similarly, quantum physicists are exploring the use of quantum effects to advance machine learning. Our lab'slong-term goalis to advance these areas and extend the applicability of machine learning ideas to the solution of critical problems in quantum many-body physics with ramifications in condensed matter theory, machine learning, quantum materials, chemistry, as well as quantum technology.
In this role, you will be at the forefront of addressing severalfundamental questions including:
How can we bestsimulate strongly correlated quantum systems and harness the power of both classical and quantum computing resources? Can we automate the scientific process leading to fundamental breakthroughs?
Your work will encompass a diverse array of conceptsat the intersectionof artificial intelligence, condensed matter physics, and quantum computing.
This position isfull-time, with flexiblestarting dates in2025 and 2026.
ProfileYou should have:
- Strong interest in the development oftheoretical or computational methods for quantum many-body systems, quantum computing, ormachine learning.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Ability to collaborate and establish positive interactionswith a widelydiverse group of people from different backgrounds, countries, ethnicities, genders, etc.
- Ability to work independently and in collaboration.
Desirable:
Experience with large language models and automation.
In this role, you will:
- Have the freedomto develop your research ideas and skills.
- Have the opportunity to collaborate internally with other ETH faculty as well asinternationally.
- Mentor students and interns.
- Experience a supportivegroup atmosphere.
- Define, jointly with the rest of the group, a work schedule that best fits your preferences and constraints.
- Have access to state-of-the-art computational facilities.
- Travel to conferences and collaborations.
Sustainability is a core value for us – we are consistently working towards a climate-neutral future .Curious? So are we.
We look forward to receiving your online application with the following documents:
- CV
