Mechanical Design Engineer – Taunton

Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 (dependent on experience)

Employment Type: Permanent

• Use CAD for concept design and produce technical drawings
• Operate Inventor software day‑to‑day
• Conduct research, hand calculations, FEA, testing, and prototyping
• Manage the full product lifecycle from concept to production
• Create models and prototypes
• Liaise with clients and develop solutions for design specifications
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth delivery of projects
• Maintain technical drawings and documentation
• Provide technical guidance and support
• Support product testing, verification, and validation
• Support junior team members

• At least 2 years of experience in a mechanical design engineering role
• Experience in machinery design, hydraulics, sheet metal, and precision components
• Strong 3D CAD skills – Inventor or Solid Works
• Knowledge of rotating equipment, SPM, valves, pumps, actuators, pneumatics, gauges, piping (beneficial)
• Strong practical skills: hand calculations, verification, validation, FEA, testing, prototyping
• Degree/HNC/HND/BTEC/NVQ/ONC or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
• Experience designing products from concept to production
• Ability to manage projects, meet deadlines and budgets
• Ability to maintain technical documentation and BOM entry
• Innovative, accurate, and passionate about design
• Technically minded with problem‑solving skills
• Excellent leadership and organisational skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
