A Little About Our Telford SiteThe Telford site is Avara Foods’ primary processing facility, handling up to 1.5 million birds per week and employing over 1,200 talented people. The site recently received a £2.3 million investment in technology and equipment, making it one of the UK’s most advanced food manufacturing facilities.
About the RoleThe role is factory‑based at the Telford site, working in a fast‑paced, dynamic FMCG factory environment. It follows a 4‑day / 4‑day shift pattern (06:00‑18:30 & 18:30‑06:30). As a Maintenance Engineer you will optimise machinery output and product quality, minimise plant downtime, promote good engineering practice, and maintain a safe and healthy environment.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the team during breakdowns using your skills and experience.
- Ensure maintenance follows PPM schedules and corrective actions are efficient.
- Respond quickly to breakdowns across multiple areas, identifying root causes and suggesting improvements.
- Communicate unscheduled breakdowns to the Engineering Shift Manager and coordinate with operations to minimise disruption.
- Follow engineering standards and good hygiene practices.
- Adhere to health and safety guidelines and report any H&S, animal welfare, or environmental issues.
- Apply basic fault‑finding techniques to identify root causes.
- Raise stock and non‑stock request forms.
- Use the CMMS system for spare parts, job logging and completion.
- Advanced Engineering Apprenticeship in mechanical or electrical disciplines.
- Solid engineering experience, ideally within food manufacturing.
- Familiarity with process machinery or equivalent equipment and strong fault‑finding ability.
- Mechanical fitting skills—machining, welding, and fabrication experience advantageous.
- Ability to mentor colleagues.
- Self‑motivated attitude, can multitask, and thrive in a timeline‑driven environment.
- Pro‑active and can‑do attitude.
- Industrial refrigeration experience desirable but not essential.
- Desirable IEE 17th or 18th edition.
- Desirable advanced electrical qualification.
- Desirable knowledge of PLCs, variable speed drives, and control systems.
- Salary: £38,139.04 to £41,829.91 per annum.
