Independent Reviewing Officer and Conference Chair

Employer: Telford & Wrekin Council

Location: Telford

Salary: £51,726 – £54,856 per annum (including market factor where applicable)

Hours: 37 per week, fixed term 6 months

Benefits: full reimbursement of Social Work England registration fee, essential car user allowance.

About the role

Children and young people are at the heart of all we do. The Independent Reviewing Officer and Conference Chair ensures that plans for children fully reflect the needs of children and young people and that all planning processes meet regulatory requirements, reflect best practice and maintain a focus on achieving best outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and chair multi‑agency review and conference meetings.
  • Ensure child‑focused, robust and achievable plans.
  • Challenge and promote best practice where plans are not progressing.
  • Facilitate the child's voice in planning and decision‑making.
  • Analyse and evaluate information and negotiate with colleagues.
  • Work both virtually and in person with children, families and partner agencies.
Qualifications
  • Social work qualified and registered with Social Work England.
  • At least 5 years post‑qualified with experience working with children in care or child protection plans.
  • Knowledgeable of relevant childcare legislation and statutory guidance.
  • Strong solutions‑focused approach for best outcomes.
  • Experience managing multi‑agency meetings.
  • Committed to ensuring the child's voice is heard and central to planning.
