Chef / CookJob Description
To organise and control the efficient and economic production of quality food within the allowed budget, whilst maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in line with EHO regulations.
Main Responsibilities- Prepare, cook and serve hot and cold meals, as and when required.
- Provide for special dietary requirements where necessary, and take into account the preferences of individual Clients.
- Liaise with the Home Manager when planning and costing menus to provide a balanced nutritious diet, using the best available fresh foods.
- Arrange and participate in staff and client meetings as required.
- Maintain accurate records of food supplies, freezer and fridge temperatures.
- Ensure stock rotation and order stocks, checking deliveries and valuing stocks as required by the Home Manager.
- Prepare staff rota for Kitchen.
- Interview new staff with the Home Manager as required, following the Company’s recruitment policy.
- Supervise and instruct kitchen staff in equipment use and hygiene procedures, providing help and guidance.
- Conduct basic food hygiene training for care staff handling food.
- Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence; attend mandatory training as required.
- Ensure statutory health and safety standards, and that all crockery and equipment are cleaned and stored properly.
- Report injuries or illnesses to the Home Manager or Person in Charge immediately.
- Implement the Care Centre’s Health and Safety policy as well as emergency and fire procedures.
- Report faulty appliances, damaged furniture or hazards to the Home Manager or Handyperson.
- Promote safe working practice and maintain the Care Centre’s security at all times.
- Carry out any other tasks reasonably assigned.
- City & Guilds 706 - 1 & 2, or equivalent qualification (achieved or working towards)
- Basic Food / Hygiene Certificate
- Good communication skills
- Team player
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Satisfactory Police Check and check against the POVA List (where applicable)
- Intermediate Food / Hygiene Certificate
- Previous supervisory experience
- Experience of food preparation for the relevant client group

Salary£14.00 hourly
