We are seeking a Sawmill Maintenance Supervisor for our flagship 300 million board‑foot sawmill located at 156 Darrel Avenue, Thunder Bay, ON. The position is full‑time and permanent.
About the RoleThe Sawmill Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the maintenance performance of a state‑of‑the‑art three‑line study mill. The supervisor reports to the Maintenance Superintendent and supervises maintenance personnel and external contractors to work safely and productively, maximizing quality and production while minimizing maintenance costs and unscheduled downtime. The role involves planning, scheduling, and supervising maintenance and capital work as we transition from project construction into daily operation activities.
Key Responsibilities- Apply the highest safety standards for all maintenance operations.
- Provide leadership, technical support, and coaching to trade personnel and peers while fostering positive employee relations.
- Collaborate with Production and Maintenance personnel to plan, schedule, and supervise maintenance and capital work.
- Utilize Maintenance & Supply Chain best practices and the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for processing work orders, purchase requisitions, weekly schedules, preventive maintenance, and equipment database updates.
- Perform periodic inspections of equipment and systems to identify operating conditions and needed repairs or adjustments.
- Supervise repairs/projects carried out by sub‑contractors and ensure quality of work and adherence to deadlines through rigorous follow‑ups.
- Plan and control expenditures in accordance with the department’s operating budget.
- Ensure availability of parts, materials, and special tools required for execution.
- Ensure compliance with internal and external policies, procedures, and regulations concerning health and safety of maintenance employees and site contractors.
- Mechanical, Electrical Engineering Technologist, Trades certification, or related industry experience.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated progression in leadership roles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team, communicate with all levels of the organization, and adapt quickly to change.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail combined with the ability to see the big picture.
- In‑depth knowledge of MS Office, CMMS, and solid computer skills.
- Self‑motivated individual who works toward safety and reliability excellence.
- Good working knowledge of sawmill and planer mill equipment.
- 5 × 5 × 4 alternating work schedule.
