This is an exciting opportunity to join a well established team working with people over 65yrs old in the Community who are experiencing mental health difficulties of either Functional or Organic nature.

The main base for the team is Tiverton Hospital with a second base in Crediton Hospital.

As the successful candidate you would be joining a team and embedding the core values of the CMHF and the Dementia Strategy.

We strive as a directorate to achieve outstanding care and treatment and development of staff.

We have two posts available

  • 1 x 37.5 hour per week Substantive post
  • 1 x 37.5 hour per week Fixed Term / Secondment post ending on 17th July 2026.
Main duties of the job

Thepostholderwilldeliverhighqualitycomprehensivementalhealthservices.

Theroleinvolves managing a defined caseload with a focus on providing expert assessment and treatment for people with complex mental health difficulties and their carers. This will involve implementing the CMHF and Dementia Strategy as part of a care plan.

The liaison with a wide range of statutory and non-statutory agencies is central to this role.

Thepostholderwillcontributetotheclinicalleadershipof theteam, providingsupervisionfor other members and participating in team and service development, and evaluation.

responsibilities
  • Contribute to the teams engagement with a wide range of stakeholders including staff, service users, their carers and other statutory and voluntary sector agencies.
  • Impart highly complex and sensitive information to:
    • Patients and families/ carers assessment, care planning, treatment and review
    • Multi-disciplinary teams to ensure the provision of consistent well-coordinated care
    • Primary care teams regarding client care
    • External agencies also involved in the provision of care e.g.: voluntary and private sector, police, social services, housing, employment etc.
    • Service user/ carer groups
  • Liaise with a wide range of other professionals and agencies.
  • Contribute to the safe and effective day to day operations of the service including the handling of clinical enquires.
  • Provide and receive information some of which may be contentious, sensitive and highly complex to and from individuals and their families/carers, where there may be barriers to understanding.
  • Provide high standard of written and verbal communication that is clear and in line with professional documentation standards
  • Participate in and chair clinical meetings, this will include, professional meetings, and clinical risk meetings.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate in a way that is empathic and reassuring whilst employing negotiating techniques to gain co-operation from highly complex individuals.
