We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented General Accountant to join a well-established organization operating within a consumer-focused industry. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this role supports the day-to-day accounting operations of the business, with a strong emphasis on financial reporting and operating spend analysis.
Key Responsibilities- Support the month-end close process and collaborate with the Accounting Manager to ensure accurate and timely monthly financial reporting.
- Record corporate accounting entries, including month-end accruals, prepaid expenses, bank transactions, and intercompany activity.
- Prepare and analyze balance sheet reconciliations, including bank accounts (CAD and foreign currency), accrued liabilities, prepaid expenses, and other key accounts.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of annual budgets and forecasts.
- Prepare analysis related to fixed asset depreciation and lease-related expenses for budget and forecast cycles.
- Produce and analyze monthly operating reports (actuals versus budget or forecast) and provide insights into spending trends.
- Work closely with accounts payable and accounts receivable teams to ensure proper cut-off and accuracy of financial statements.
- Maintain the fixed asset register, including asset set-up, reporting, and ongoing analysis.
- Support cash management activities and respond to banking-related inquiries from internal stakeholders.
- Prepare and submit monthly corporate, commodity, and withholding tax payments.
- Maintain the chart of accounts, including the setup of new accounts and structures for new business units.
- Complete required government and statistical reporting.
- Proactively identify and recommend improvements to accounting processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Contribute to special projects and ad hoc initiatives as assigned.
- CPA designation completed or in progress.
- Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and standard accounting practices.
- Strong technical accounting skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- 3–4 years of experience in general accounting and corporate financial reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong overall Microsoft Office skills.
- Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems is considered an asset.
