Position SummaryReporting to Manager, Property Accounting, the Property Accountant will assist the Accounting Team in any special projects as assigned. You will be responsible for the overall accounting of a portfolio of commercial real‑estate properties. We are looking for a property accounting professional that is ready to hit the ground running, thrive on working within deadlines, and provide strong financial reporting for your assigned properties.
Your technical accounting expertise will add value to our clients’ business objectives as well as our internal teams, including property managers. You will strive to achieve established timelines for accounting and reporting periods with accuracy and completeness for all areas of responsibility.
- Prepare monthly operating statements, property management reports, and monthly/quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Evaluate monthly operating variances and prepare budgets as directed.
- Prepare year-end cost statements and final billing to tenants, as well as monthly journal entries and bank reconciliations on a timely basis.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records for all assigned properties in accordance with Northwest’s guidelines.
- Participate and assist in operating cost audits.
- Produce various accounting reports and analyses as requested by the Accounting Manager, VP Accounting, and/or Senior Management.
- Accountable for tax filing (GST/QST) and property tax information as required.
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in Business/Accounting, CPA designation or in progress.
- 3-5 years of related experience in a real estate or property accounting environment is an asset.
- Experience and knowledge of Yardi is a plus.
- Proficient computer skills:
Windows, Outlook, Excel, Word. - Ability to multi‑task and prioritize to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be a team player while also being able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Must be self‑motivated and have a sense of urgency.
- Friendly, professional with a strong work ethic.
$73,000 - $80,000 CAD per year.
