Starlight Investments, in conjunction with WP Osborne Executive Search, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their portfolio finance team.

Senior Accountant

Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the accounting for various entities. This includes preparing journal entries, monthly balance sheet reconciliations, income statement analysis, year-end audit working papers, review of property managers reporting, cash calls and assisting with the preparation of consolidated financial reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Detailed review of monthly property-level reporting packages provided by property managers. Ensuring reporting packages are fully supportable and accurate;
• Detailed preparation of consolidated account reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts, including assisting with the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reporting, as required for ownership;
• Analyze and interpret balance sheets and income statements, and provide financial/management reports as requested;
• Maintain General Ledger, including:
  Posting journal entries;
  Analyzing general ledger;
  Making adjustments where needed;
• Completion of monthly bank reconciliations;
• Completion of HST reconciliations and returns;
• Prepare full set of audit lead sheets and working papers for monthly reporting to assist auditors complete quarterly/year-end reviews/audits and tax return preparation;
• Assist with monthly and quarterly WSIB filings for the various entities;
• Assist with acquisition/disposition, debt/refinancing entries and preparation of necessary backup for audit purposes;
• Other tasks assigned by the Assistant Controller, as required.

Qualifications

The Senior Accountant will possess a University Degree in Finance/Accounting, and 2+ years of accounting experience; a thorough understanding of accounting principles;
Microsoft Word and Outlook with superior Excel skills; strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. This candidate will be able to deal with confidential information, demonstrating reliability and dependability; and be a detail-oriented, self-directed, resourceful, analytical thinker who can deliver results in a deadline-driven environment. Experience with Yardi software and residential real estate industry is considered an asset, as well as the CPA designation.
