We are seeking an Intermediate Transportation Design Engineer to join our dynamic Toronto West Office. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in roadway and transit corridor design, excellent communication, and proven experience delivering detailed engineering projects. This position is primarily focused on the design, development, and delivery of transportation infrastructure, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to create innovative, sustainable mobility solutions.
Accountabilities- Lead and deliver detailed design for transportation infrastructure projects, including municipal roads, highways, LRT/BRT corridors, and active transportation facilities.
- Develop engineering drawings and models using Micro Station, Open Roads, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.
- Prepare and review design documents, construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for roadways, intersections, and transit facilities.
- Conduct road safety and traffic operations analysis to inform design decisions.
- Coordinate and integrate utility, drainage, and grading designs in collaboration with other engineering disciplines.
- Ensure all designs are compliant with applicable standards and guidelines (e.g., TAC, Ontario Traffic Manuals, MTO requirements).
- Support the preparation of tender packages and respond to contractor inquiries during construction.
- Perform quality checks for technical accuracy and completeness prior to submittal.
- Mentor junior staff in design tasks and technical best practices.
- Maintain effective communication with clients, attend design meetings, and deliver technical presentations if required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with PEO.
- 4‑6 years of direct experience in transportation design: municipal roads, highways, LRT/BRT, intersection improvements, and active transportation infrastructure.
- Proficient in Micro Station, Open Roads, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.
- Working knowledge of specialized software (e.g., Synchro, Auto Turn) to support design tasks.
- Strong understanding of relevant technical standards, including TAC Geometric Design Guide, Ontario Traffic Manuals, and the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple design tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

SalaryThe salary range for this position is $78,000 – $117,000. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
