FCC Construcción has been present in Canada for more than 25 years, involved in innovative subway infrastructure work, such as the Highway 407 stations and Northern Tunnels for the Toronto York Spadina Subway Line Expansion, as well as the construction, operation, and maintenance of the Fredericton Moncton Highway.

We are experiencing exponential growth in our presence in Canada. In 1998, it was awarded the construction, operation, and maintenance project for the Fredericton-Moncton Highway. In 2011, it was awarded a section of the Toronto-York Spadina Subway extension, the first modern subway infrastructure project in the city. This project was completed in 2018.

FCC Construcción Canadá has won a new contract to deliver the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations section of the Ontario Line, together with the GO Rail Expansion-On Corridor Project and the Scarborough Subway Extension Stations, Rail and Systems Project reinforces FCC Construcción’s presence in the Canadian market.

Position Summary

The Health and Safety Inspector key responsibilities are:

  • Ensure that all construction sites comply with applicable health and safety regulations, codes, and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of sites, equipment, and work processes to identify potential hazards and verify compliance with safety protocols.
  • Support the development and delivery of safety training programs for employees, subcontractors, and suppliers, emphasizing safe work practices and procedures.
  • Facilitate incident reporting and investigation processes, including near‑miss reporting, and collaborate with teams to implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records, including incident reports, inspection findings, and training documentation, and prepare reports for management review.
  • Promote safety awareness by organizing safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety campaigns to engage all personnel in safety initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of emergency response plans, ensuring all employees are trained and prepared to respond effectively.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous safety improvement, provide recommendations, and work with project teams to implement enhancements.
  • Assess the safety performance of subcontractors and suppliers to ensure compliance with company safety standards and expectations.
  • Stay informed about updates to health and safety regulations, codes, and best practices, and communicate relevant changes to project and site teams.
Education and Qualifications
  • Minimum 5‑7 years of experience on major projects similar to Light Rail transit and tunnel experience.
  • Health and Safety Certification:
    Possession of a relevant safety certification such as NCSO is required.
  • Familiarity with COR or ISO 45001:
    Basic knowledge or exposure to either COR auditing or ISO 45001 standard.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
Job Requirements
  • Significant experience in supporting health and safety operations within heavy civil construction projects is essential.
  • The role requires flexibility to work varied hours, including nights and weekends, based on project needs, and may involve rotating shifts between days and nights.
  • Candidates with previous experience in tunneling environments, including underground stations and tunnel boring machine (TBM) operations, will be strongly preferred.
