GFT is seeking a Senior Systems Safety Engineer to join our Practice or CBG Team in Toronto. Working on the transportation team offers the opportunity to engage in projects that enhance transportation infrastructure and improve community connectivity, including highways, bridges, and traffic engineering, with a focus on resilient, sustainable design and safe, reliable multimodal roadway systems.

What You’ll Be Challenged To Do

Under limited supervision, lead tasks and apply innovation to solve complex technical challenges in the design, construction, operations, and maintenance of commuter, light, and heavy rail transit systems. Deliver technical work that meets schedule, quality, and cost targets as part of multi-discipline teams or client project teams. Lead a broad range of systems engineering activities and plan work packages using project management methods.

Maintain strong RAMS expertise and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have strong technical capability in Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety (RAMS) analysis methods and perform RAMS-related activities for the rail transportation industry.

Responsibilities
  • Define RAMS plans for specific projects and transit agencies.
  • Establish processes related to RAMS using industry best practices.
  • Specify RAMS metrics, KPIs, and RAMS targets for electronic, electro-mechanical, and train-based systems.
  • Serve as the trusted RAMS advisor for Gannett Fleming’s clients.
  • Perform System Hazard Analysis, Operating and Support Hazard Analysis, and Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis on multiple systems.
  • Execute RAMS plans for green-field and brown-field developments.
  • Support continuous development of RAMS activities for ongoing projects.
  • Support technical consultancy on RAMS, integration, validation & verification, and other system engineering activities.
  • Apply best practice systems engineering techniques to pursue work in the region.
  • Extract technical and functional requirements from tender documents to create RAMS requirements.
  • Follow company procedures related to safety, quality, environmental, commercial, and project management as relevant to tasks.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop staff to help them reach their potential within GFT.
What You Will Bring To Our Firm
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics.
  • Registered Professional Engineer is an asset but not mandatory for this role.
What We Prefer You Bring
  • 15+ years of experience applying Safety to Rail Systems.
  • Experience executing system safety activities in urban rail projects.
  • Proven ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and across business units.
  • Team player, able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in a project environment with customer relationship and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience with CENELEC EN 50126, 50129, and 50716.
  • Experience with CSA R114:22 and MIL-882.
