As a Health & Safety Specialist based in Toronto, ON, you’ll be looking at a career-defining role that ensures a safe and healthy environment for our people and contractors, minimizes environmental impacts, and protects Alstom assets from fire and natural catastrophes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Site Management in achieving EHS results
    • Drive the implementation of EHS policy on the field according to Alstom/Region/Country-Cluster guidelines and targets, and improve EHS results at the site.
    • Advise, coach, and support operational management in implementing EHS actions to reach objectives. Prepare the local yearly EHS plan, mobilise resources, coordinate others, and monitor deployment.
    • Ensure EHS risk assessments are completed and appropriate control measures defined.
    • Prepare, implement and maintain emergency plans at site level.
    • Ensure subcontractor activities comply with EHS requirements, especially where interfaces with other contractors or operational areas exist.
    • Stop any operational activity that presents an immediate high risk to people or the environment.
  • Lead the EHS function in the site
    • Monitor, assist, coach, assess, and develop the EHS programs.
    • Conduct induction programs for new EHS personnel.
    • Involve social and medical partners and communicate with them about EHS matters.
  • Develop site EHS Management System
    • Develop, deploy, and maintain local procedures and tools specific to the site in line with Transport & Country/Cluster EHS Management System.
    • Deploy Alstom EHS standards and tools (AZDP, TOP_E, Transport Key processes) at site level.
  • EHS compliance
    • Monitor compliance with all relevant statutory, regulatory, contractual, and company requirements and propose corrective actions.
    • Maintain records and documentation at the site.
    • Monitor historical pollution and associated risks.
  • Develop EHS culture at the site
    • Influence site EHS performance through continuous improvement.
    • Build site EHS communication plan.
    • Prepare and implement an EHS training plan with HR support.
  • Report, measure & review
    • Ensure that accidents/incidents are prevented, reported, investigated, and analysed. Communicate REX reports for severe or potentially severe accidents and deploy Alstom EHS call for actions.
    • Prepare and submit monthly EHS reports, feed the Teranga reporting system, and ensure data quality.
    • Organise and lead internal EHS audits and inspections of the reporting process in the Country/Cluster.
Required Profile
  • Health & Safety qualification recognized by the enforcing authorities in the country of operation (when required).
  • Degree or Diploma level environmental qualification (Desirable).
  • Professional experience between 2 and 5 years, depending on site size.
  • Experience of 2+ years in Environment, Health & Safety.
  • Experience in manufacturing sites or Regional Centers highly recommended.
  • Good knowledge of ISO
    14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO
    45001.
  • Deep knowledge of local legal requirements.
  • Experience in railway a plus (Desirable).

  • Good computer skills.
  • Continuous Improvement tools.
