Position: Technician, Field (Contract)
What is the Opportunity?
AUE is seeking a Field Technician to support telecom infrastructure projects through precise data collection, site assessments, and permit-ready documentation. You'll work independently in the field using mobile tools to capture measurements, identify constructability risks, and ensure data integrity for design teams.
What You'll Do Here
Use mobile field data capture (i.e., Field Maps, IKE) to record attributes, sketches, and photos; sync datasets to the project repository for design use.Provide measurements and imagery for Municipal Consent/ROW, aerial permit packages, and traffic control inputs (TTC/TMP).Identify constructability risks early and propose practical alternatives (i.e., route shifts, chamber placements, aerial vs. underground options).Verify coordinate systems and basemaps, maintain data integrity, naming conventions, version control, and complete survey logs for traceability.Apply QA/QC checklists to ensure completeness and accuracy of collected data before publishing to the design team.Participate in the Comment Resolution Matrix (CRM) by clarifying field conditions and resolving reviewer comments prior to resubmission.Provide regular updates on field progress, issues, and changes; assist with post-construction as-built verification when required.Follow Aecon’s safety policies and field procedures, including traffic awareness, utility locate coordination, site access permissions, and PPE compliance.What You Bring to the Team
1–3 years of experience in field survey or telecom design support (FTTH/OSP/ISP); co-op or internship experience considered.Hands-on experience with mobile field capture tools (i.e., IKE device/workflows, ArcGIS Field Maps), basic AutoCAD redlining, and familiarity with ESRI/GIS platforms.Working knowledge of telecom route feasibility, ROW constraints, and municipal permitting inputs.Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and clear communication; comfortable working independently outdoors in varied weather conditions.Valid provincial driver’s license in good standing.Diploma or certificate in Geomatics/Survey, Civil/Telecom Technology, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience.
