We are expanding our presence in Canada and seek a Design Manager – Civil based in Toronto to work on railway transit infrastructure projects (High Speed, Metro, LRT, streetcars, subway extensions). Candidates must be local to be considered.
Responsibilities
Assist Project Manager in development of construction documents for transit projects.
Monitor design schedule, track deliverable dates, and prepare look‑ahead schedule.
Work with discipline leads to identify design issues and prepare RFIs to the client.
Manage design subconsultant agreements, deliverables, and invoicing process.
Track project associated costs related to design hours, progress tracking, and estimating.
Coordinate design solutions with other disciplines and contract requirements by chairing meetings and preparing sketches.
Collaborate with BIM and CAD personnel to develop drawings, sketches, and support documents.
Track and monitor design interfaces internally, with the client, and with third parties.
Review all contract requirements and ensure compliance.
Participate in change management process and assist Commercial Manager when required.
Track and resolve design issues.
Ensure procedures are followed and key documents are uploaded to the client.
Review procedures for design quality management and track performance.
Attend internal and external meetings and keep meeting minute records.
Be familiar with local design codes and drawing preparation standards.
Research available design standards, requirements, and literature to support design decisions.
Requirements
More than 10 years’ experience as Engineer (Civil or Structural) or Architect, including alignment, familiar with Ontario design standards.
Experience as Design Manager or Assistant Project Manager is mandatory and local Toronto project experience required.
P.Eng. or OAA registration is an asset.
Experience in detailed design coordination.
PMP training is an asset.
Legally able to work in the greater Toronto area presently.
High skills in Inroads or Power Rail Track are mandatory.
Sound technical/business judgment in evaluation, organization, management, and experience of design activities.
Able to develop plans, specifications, technical notes & calculations with minimal supervision.
Ability to develop non‑standard solutions.
Ability to work in a multi‑disciplined team.
Attention to detail and time‑effective work.
Effective communication with management, coworkers, clients, vendors, partners, contractors.
Willingness to learn, develop and apply new techniques, standards, and processes.
Willingness to take on additional tasks as needed.
Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
Excellent analytical and technical writing skills, organizational, time management, and critical thinking skills.
Fluency in English, both written and verbal is critical.
