The team works on a range of projects—from small installations to large integrated mega projects—supporting upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas activities as well as energy transition markets. The focus is on delivering design, engineering, and environmental services that support climate adaptation, water and marine resource protection, biodiversity restoration, and low‑carbon solutions.
To meet our growing demand WSP is hiring an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join teams located at any one of WSP’s Canadian offices, with a preference for Calgary, AB;
Moncton, NB;
Kitchener, ON. The role involves tackling complex energy projects from initial concept through detailed engineering, working on mechanical deliverables for a wide range of power plant technologies including biomass, geothermal, hydrogen, renewable natural gas, fossil fuel, carbon capture, battery energy storage, and hydro.
- Design mechanical piping and equipment for renewable and fossil power generation facilities.
- Prepare mechanical equipment and packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, RFQs, and technical bid evaluations.
- Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings and data; interface with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, and designers.
- Ensure effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
- Prepare construction/installation scopes of work for mechanical systems.
- Participate in the development of PFDs and P&IDs.
- Perform piping design activities including sizing, pressure‐drop calculations, stress analysis, and pipe support design.
- Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
- University Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
- 5+ years of relevant mechanical engineering design experience within an EPCM environment, ideally with a focus on industrial facilities.
- Licensed professional engineer (P.Eng, Ing, PE) in the province of practice.
- Experience with in a consulting environment (desired).
- Previous experience with power plant or renewable natural gas plant design (desired).
- Working knowledge of Micro Station or AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge of Smart Plant 3D or CADworx.
- Experience using Caesar II or Auto Pipe.
- Experience using Thermoflow.
