Overview
WSP is seeking a Geological Engineer-in-Training to work on projects with our Rock Mechanics team in Mississauga or Sudbury. Under the mentorship of intermediate and senior team members, you will provide support to technical staff, engineers, and project managers for mining, closure and infrastructure projects. You will have access to a broad network of resources and opportunities to collaborate with teammates from rock mechanics, geophysics, structural geology, hydrogeology, geotechnical engineering, and more.
Responsibilities- Assist with field activities including borehole layout, utility clearances, supervision of drill rigs, logging boreholes, mapping rock faces, surveying, and inspections.
- Summarize and analyze findings from field inspections, investigations, and lab testing.
- Prepare and work with 2D and 3D geological and geotechnical models.
- Assist with or carry out various geological or geotechnical data analyses.
- Prepare and assist with engineering memos, reports, and presentations.
- Provide geotechnical engineering support for analysis and design of underground or surface rock excavation, monitoring, support, and other geotechnical problems.
- Participate in a team environment within and outside of the rock mechanics discipline.
- Learn about the consulting business and develop and share technical skills with other team members.
- Willingness to be mobile in Ontario and to perform a variety of work that may include field and office-based tasks, possibly outside of normal business hours.
- Basic understanding of geology, structural geology, and rock mechanics.
- Experience with commonly used geotechnical software or field tasks.
- Experience assisting with and writing geotechnical reports.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English;
French is an asset. - Ability to think and act independently while accepting coaching and feedback.
- Enthusiastic, resourceful, adaptable, well organized, and detail-oriented.
- Professional with a focus on Safety-First and able to contribute to high-performing teams.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Geological, Mining or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Eligible or in the process of obtaining registration with PEO.
- Valid driver’s license.
