IPAC Manager – Extendicare Guildwood

The Permanent Full‑time position of IPAC Manager is located at our 161‑facility in Scarborough, ON.
Responsibilities- Coordinate and implement infection prevention and control practices.
- Plan infection surveillance program and lead outbreak management in consultation with the local public health unit.
- Perform daily infection surveillance and develop monthly surveillance reports.
- Educate staff on principles and practices of infection prevention and serve as a resource.
- Maintain resident vaccines and ensure compliance with Long‑Term Care Homes Act infection control guidelines.
- Plan, develop, deliver, and implement all training/orientation for current and new employees in accordance with legislation and health care standards, and in consultation with the Leadership Committee.
- Evaluate training programs to ensure needs of the home are met.
- Identify and report safety hazards, conduct safety inspections and follow safe working practices.
- Provide expert guidance on facility design, maintenance, and construction projects.
- Lead implementation of changes mandated by regulatory, accrediting, and licensing agencies (including reporting communicable diseases).
- Monitor staff compliance with infection prevention guidelines regarding disposal of sharps, biomedical waste, PPE, hand hygiene and provide reports to the Infection Prevention Committees.
- Analyze infection trends, risk factors, and evaluate prevention and control strategies.
- Assess program and recommend corrections for improvement.
- Lead the annual influenza vaccination campaign.
- Lead outbreak response efforts with local public health unit.
- Conduct research and interpret evidence‑based literature to develop IPAC best practices, guidelines, tools, and resources.
- RN/RPN degree or diploma.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related healthcare field (e.g., Microbiology, Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Science, Medicine, or Occupational Health).
- Current Certification in Infection Control (CIC).
- 3 to 5 years of experience in infection control.
- Previous experience in long‑term care and knowledge of applicable legislation.
- Experience and proficiency in resident care practice, microbiology and infectious diseases, epidemiology and biostatistics, outbreak response.
