Overview

The Environmental Aide, under the direction of the Lead Hand and Environmental Services Supervisor, cleans and removes waste in patient rooms, isolation rooms, offices, and public hospital areas. This role involves cleaning non-clinical equipment, operating electrically powered scrubbing and polishing floor finishing machines, as well as ride-on equipment to ensure a high level of cleanliness and promote patient safety. Support for offsite community vaccination clinics may also be required.

Education

• Grade 12

Qualifications

• 1 year of recent relevant experience (within the last 3 years) in a similar role; healthcare environment preferred.
• Effective communication skills (written and oral) in English.
• Successful completion of mandatory testing with a minimum score of 50%.
• Ability to meet physical demands, including continuous walking, bending, twisting, pulling, pushing, and lifting.
• Ability to operate heavy housekeeping equipment.
• Capability to lift 20kg repeatedly.
• Ability to work at heights using scaffolding and ladders.
• Proficiency in cleaning all hospital areas, including terminal cleaning of isolated zones.
• Comfort with frequent contact with water and disinfectants.
• Ability to handle soiled linen, refuse, and bodily fluids.
• Focus on providing excellent customer service.
• Familiarity with technology such as Vocera and Bed Tracking Software.
• Proficiency with email and completing education modules online.
• Flexibility, teamwork, and independence in work approach.
