Overview
The Lead Hand - Unit Clerk, Emergency Department acts as a liaison to staff, patients, their families and the public; the incumbent is professional, courteous and displays the values of the organization during all interactions. The individual will act as the primary liaison within the ED Unit Clerk group; they will also participate in projects in the department, and work to ensure successful implementations and roll-outs with the ED team.
The Lead Hand – Unit Clerk, within the ED, will work with other Unit Clerks for the purposes of training and to provide direction related to the activities of their work. The individual performs clerical duties including data entry as related to SRM Ordering, ANSOS, Power Chart, First Net, ESM scheduling, PTAC, Teletracking and Criticall. The incumbent is comfortable working among a variety of patient populations, including with Medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery and Mental Health patients;
they will assist with data collection and reporting for the unit daily performance, using programs such as Excel, Outlook and Word.
Education
- Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent educational preparation.
- Training related to office administration/office coordination an asset.
Qualifications
- Previous Unit Clerk experience in an Emergency Room required.
- Previous Unit Clerk experience required, minimum 3 years.
- Medical terminology knowledge required.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and prioritization skills required.
- Excellent documentation skills required.
- Computer and keyboarding skills.
- Demonstrates basic mathematical skills.
- Demonstrates tact, diplomacy, and discretion in matters related to patients, staff and hospital
affairs as outlined in the Hospitals Core Service Standards.
-Able to work independently as well as work in a team environment.
-Able to demonstrate skill competency within a fast paced, multi-task critical care area.
