The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is a Faculty of the University of Toronto that originated as one of the Schools of Hygiene begun by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1927. The School, which played a critical role in the COVID-19 pandemic response, went through a dramatic renaissance after the 2003 SARS crisis and it is now the largest public health school in Canada, with more than 850 faculty, 1,000 students, and research and training partnerships with institutions throughout Toronto and the world.

Your opportunity:
The Population Health Analytics Lab focuses on research to inform the prevention of chronic diseases and sustainable health systems. Our analytically-driven approach draws from rich demographic, behavioural, social, clinical, and health outcomes data. We inform decision-making related to improving health system performance, reduced inequities, and fiscal sustainability. We work directly with health system stakeholders and decision-makers to translate knowledge to action and enhance the meaningfulness of our studies.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator, but taking day to day supervision from the Research Project Manager, the incumbent will conduct qualitative and quantitative research methods. You will conduct complex epidemiological and statistical analyses using various datasets, as well as collect and analyse qualitative data. You will conduct systematic literature reviews and assist in preparing grants, reports, manuscripts and presentations. As a Research Officer, you will monitor and coordinate study activities, work with the lab’s partners, as well as facilitate knowledge translation initiatives to share and apply study findings.
Your responsibilities will include:
Implementing and executing qualitative and quantitative research methodsConducting systematic/literature reviews and evidence synthesis in the context of prediction method and strategies for chronic disease prevention and high resource utilizationConducting statistical data analyses and data interpretation using population-based linked health administrative/survey dataAssisting in the preparation of grant submissions and knowledge translation activities, including the preparation of reports, manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications and conference presentationsPreparing Research Ethics Board protocol submissions related to chronic disease prevention and high resource utilization analysesDelivering presentations at conferences on research findingsTracking and monitoring research activities, maintaining project records and informing stakeholders of project progressCoordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials and follow-up itemsEssential
Qualifications:
Master's Degree with a background in publichealth, epidemiology, health promotion or acceptable combination of equivalent experienceMinimum three years of relevant work experience with analysis and interpretation of qualitative and quantitative health-related dataExperience in statistical analysis, including binomial, and multinomial logistic regression, discrete-choice models, survival analysis, and count modelsExperience in analysing complex survey data, including incorporating bootstrap and other survey proceduresExperience with qualitative data collection including conducting participant observations and key-informant interviewsExperience with qualitative data analysis methods including descriptive, thematic and interpretive techniquesExperience with submitting Research Ethics Boards and CIHR grant applicationsExperience in conducting systematic reviews, critical appraisal of evidence, quality of evidence assessment, meta-analysis, and knowledge synthesesExperience writing reports for public disseminationExperience writing and submitting manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journalsExperience in working with health decision-makers in applied health settings, such as: public health units, hospitals, regional health authorities or governmentDemonstrated technical skills conducting epidemiological, statistical and predictive modelling and analysis using SAS, R, STATAExperience and proficiency with mapping software and qualitative software (Nvivo, MaxQDA) to generate maps for various geographic…
