Job SummaryThe IS team at Canonical supports and maintains all of Canonical's IT production services used by over 60 million Ubuntu users. As an SRE & Git Ops engineer you’ll automate infrastructure, improve canonical products, and collaborate across teams.
Responsibilities- Drive automation and Git Ops within the team as an embedded tech lead.
- Collaborate with the IS architect to align solutions with the architectural vision.
- Design and architect services that can be offered as products.
- Develop IaC practices, continuously increasing automation.
- Automate software operations for re‑usability across private and public clouds.
- Maintain operational responsibility for all core services, networks, and infrastructure.
- Set up, maintain, and use observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch; design monitoring and alerting.
- Work with globally distributed engineering, operations, and support peers.
- Focus on large projects and automation of manual tasks.
- Share experiences, best practices, and mentor teammates.
- Take final responsibility for time‑critical escalations.
- Modern view on hosting architecture driven by IaC across private and public clouds.
- Product mindset focused on developing products rather than solutions.
- Python software development experience on large projects.
- Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration systems.
- Exposure to managing and deploying cloud infrastructure with code.
- Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls.
- Affinity for Linux storage systems from Ceph to databases.
- Hands‑on experience administering enterprise Linux servers.
- Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies.
- Bachelor’s degree or greater in computer science or related field.
- Clear communication in English over email, chat, video, or voice calls.
- Motivated to troubleshoot from kernel to web, and willing to ask for help.
- Flexible and quick learner.
- Passionate about fast‑changing environments and distributed teams.
- Familiar with open‑source, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
- Distributed work environment with twice‑yearly team sprints in person.
