We are looking for a  Senior Data Scientist  to join our team in a role that blends deep data engineering expertise with hands-on support for data science and AI initiatives. While the title reflects a senior data science position, you will be uniquely positioned at the intersection of  data engineering  and  data science/AI , with emphasis on building scalable data pipelines, optimizing data architecture, and enabling the deployment of machine learning models in production.

You will be based in our Toronto office, balancing in-office collaboration with remote flexibility.

You will report to the Manager, Data Science

Your Moneris Career - What You'll Do

Design and maintain scalable data pipelines, ensuring robust logging, exception handling, and operational visibility.
Develop and optimize data models and architectures by analyzing database structures and aligning with our needs
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to uphold best practices in code quality, documentation, testing, and deployment.
Ensure data governance and lineage by working with strategy teams to promote data reuse and clarity.
Evaluate and recommend new technologies to improve data operations, using team context and emerging tools.
Design and implement AI systems incorporating Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and multimodal Large Language Models (LLMs) to solve complex challenges.
Use Databricks and Snowflake to support data analysis and enable the deployment of advanced Data Science and AI solutions.
Lead the development and deployment of DS/AI models, ensuring production readiness, performance monitoring, and business alignment.
Partner with developers, data scientists, and business leaders to embed insights into enterprise workflows and drive data-informed decisions.

Your Moneris Career - What You Bring

Bachelor's degree required (master's an asset) in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience in a Technology or business environment
Minimum of 5 years of experience working in developing and following structured work processes in data engineering
Minimum of 3 years of experience in data science and/or AI related position
Minimum of 5 years of experience coding with Python, other programming languages and coding is considered an asset

Demonstrated proficiency in Snowflake, Data Bricks, Python and SQL

Experience with Cloud platforms services such as Azure, AWS
Proficient in data management, governance, data design and database architecture
Experience manipulating, processing and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets.
Proficient in data modelling, data integrations, data orchestration, and supporting methodologies.
Proficient in leading large-scale projects or project steps and communicating progress/approach with technical/non-technical peers/clients and leaders
Experience in Payments / Financial industry (an asset)
Build Dashboards and Data Visualizations in Power

BI (an asset)
Experience working with version control, continuous integration/delivery, automated testing (unit, functional, performance) (an asset)
Minimum of 1 year of experience with RAG frameworks, multimodal LLMs, and their application in real-world scenarios (an asset)
