Join to apply for the  Head of Data Privacy  role at  BRP

Under the direction of the Director, Legal Services, the Head of Data Privacy, as defined by Quebec's Act 25, will ensure the implementation and ongoing management of the overall privacy and personal information protection program.

In addition to acting as a legal expert in the field of personal information protection, the Privacy Officer will play a key role in providing tools and training to equip the organization's various business units with legal obligations, risks, and best practices in personal information protection, and advise and support them in more strategic and complex matters.

We are now looking for someone who will continue our efforts to continuously improve the program, for example by enabling lawyers on the legal team and internal clients to develop their own reflexes and take advantage of tools in their daily work.

Manufacturing companies such as BRP face a unique and growing set of challenges in terms of privacy protection, situated at the intersection of industrial operations, digital transformation, connected products, and global regulatory environments.

New issues are also emerging around connected products and vehicles, blurring the line between operational data and personal information, requiring clear governance, contractual safeguards, and ongoing compliance with ever-changing privacy laws.

Here Are The Ways You Will Make a Difference

Develop, implement, and evolve the overall privacy program, aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements in jurisdictions where the company operates (RDPG, CPPA, LGPD, European AI Regulation, etc.).

Advise management and legal teams on privacy issues, including monitoring compliance risks and proposing appropriate corrective measures.

Conduct privacy impact assessments and privacy risk assessments for new company projects.

Manage privacy incidents, including personal information breaches, investigations, and communications with regulators and local authorities in collaboration with other business units involved, including data governance and cybersecurity.

Manage cross-border transfers of personal information and ensure compliance with transfer mechanisms.

Represent the company during audits and requests related to personal information protection.

Monitor regulatory developments and assess their impact on the company's activities.

Develop and deliver global privacy training programs for employees.

Occasionally interact with external lawyers, consultants, professionals, and vendors on mandates related to the company's compliance framework.

Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to align privacy and cybersecurity programs.

Measure and monitor the effectiveness of tools and processes to ensure compliance and recommend improvements.

Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability and legal excellence within the legal services team.

Contribute to BRP’s compliance with artificial intelligence regulations by working with relevant stakeholders to integrate regulatory requirements and privacy principles into policies, processes, guidelines, etc.

YOU’LL THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND QUALITIES

Bachelor of Laws degree.

Be a member in good standing of a Canadian or US bar association (preferably Quebec or Ontario).

Professional certifications in privacy protection (e.g., CIPP/C, CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT, AIGP) are strongly desired.

At least seven (7) years of relevant experience in privacy protection within a company or law firm.

Analytical mind and ability to meet tight deadlines on a variety of ongoing projects; analytical and synthesis skills, with the ability to explain legal concepts specific to this area of expertise in layman’s terms.

Excellent communication and priority management skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Knowledge of issues related to artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and data governance.

Adaptability to a complex, constantly changing international environment.

Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders.

Ability to innovate and manage change.

Bilingualism required (advanced French and English), both spoken and written.
