Software Development Manager, Amazon Transportation

Amazon is looking for a Software Development Manager to help build next generation assortment systems. On the Specialized Selection team within the Supply Chain Optimization Technologies (SCOT) organization, we own the selection systems that determine which products Amazon offers in our fastest delivery programs. We build state-of-the-art models leveraging tools from machine learning, numerical optimization, natural language processing, and causal inference to automate the management of Amazon's sub-same day (SSD) selection  sit as a part of one of the largest and most sophisticated supply chains in the world.

We operate a highly cross-functional team across software, science, analytics, and product to define and execute the strategic direction of SSD and speed selection more broadly.
As the Software Development Manager, you will manage a team of talented engineers to deliver against the strategic vision that you help set. You will work closely with business leaders, scientists, and other software engineers and SDMs to set a charter for your team and for the programs we support. You will be the guardian for software excellence within the team as we maintain and build the back-end decision models and vending services, implement front-end tooling to support stakeholder needs, develop analytics to shape future business strategy, and create entirely new tools, systems, and products to support evolving business needs

Key job responsibilities

• Recruit, hire, mentor, and manage teams of software engineers.

• Interface with internal customers and product managers to understand requirements, set priorities, and communicate direction and progress.

• Own operational metrics and support for your team’s software.

• Manage the agile development process and methodology to deliver tech requirements on time and with a high-degree of precision and quality.

• Coordinate with stakeholders in other groups, drive alignment across multiple orgs on shared goals and initiatives

• Make long term org design and architectural decisions

• Help develop long-term business and technology strategies.

• Drive improvements in software engineering and operational practices.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
