Position: Principal Android Engineer - Tangerine

Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

Lead engineer for Tangerine’s Android mobile platform, executing the platform vision along the team by closely working with the senior architects and leadership team.

Serves as a thought leader and subject-matter expert in the Android development ecosystem, introducing new coding practices and design patterns for the Tangerine platform.

Hands on development on highly complex initiatives.

Mentors technical leads and high-potential software engineers by providing stretch-goals and feedback through design reviews or code reviews.

Remains delivery focused and helped the team resolve technical impediments

Influences product roadmap by working closely with product team and providing technical insights and suggestions.

Refines SDLC governance process and guidelines/practices for Tangerine, including the utilization of AI coding tools.

Champions application security best practices and lead security of cloud, data, mobile, and API applications including all elements of development.

Help to raise overall skill and quality level through pairing, design/code reviews, documentation and mentoring.

Push forward our testing processes including unit, integration, functional, non-functional and security testing.

Champions application code shareability, reusability, and modularity across the bank.

Works closely with security architecture and security advisory committee to ensure continued adherence to directives and all security practices.

Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.

Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

10+ years designing and developing mobile applications

Expertise in Android/Kotlin and native mobile development

Advanced knowledge on different architecture/design techniques (e.g., Integration patterns, component-based design), data integration, security integration and infrastructure with a broad technical knowledge on integration and messaging technologies including batch, synchronous, asynchronous technologies

Experience designing and implementing public cloud-based applications with experience in either Google Cloud Platform or Microsoft Azure

Familiarity with Dev Ops practices and knowledge of enhancing CI/CD pipelines.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills with the ability to build and foster relationships with business partners, project stakeholders, strategic technology partners and external vendors.

Commitment to maintaining a diversified set of skills through continued education and mentoring peers and team members.

Ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries, build relationships, and achieve broader organizational goals.

Experience working with 3rd party vendors including defining SLOs, limitations, security assessments, etc. to achieve business goals.
